ChristianityTuesday: Funday Fool

The summer is upon us and churches are opening their doors to the community. Unfortunately, many churches aren't up to the task to share the gospel. With the latest round of summer movie blockbusters, seekers are selective about where to spend their entertainment dollars. This issue of ChristianityTuesday will help you get the edge with the latest market research on consumer trends in entertainment spending. The good news is there is great fun to be had this summer.

Nice, Remonres! I'm surprised that you don't already have orders coming in for your "Fun VBS" program.

Roller coasters and jumping castles! Man, kids these days have it so good. The biggest enticement I was ever given was that the pastor would swallow a goldfish if we came on the very last day. Dissidens is so right when he talks about the lack of an imagination among Fundamentalists. Did they really think that a little girl would want to see a slimy, scaly fish slide down anyone's mouth? But it was a popular. Every year we had the goldfish gimmick thrown at us.

Hmmm...gold fish swallowing.....I see a good ole carnival side-show geek revival in the making. If only it were the 1930's I could supplement my income as a barker

"You've heard that Jonah spent three days in the belly of the fish...but will the fish fair so well in the belly of Jonah? Step right up, two bits a view"

We could have bulimic ladies with too much make-up stand under a billboard quoting Jonah 2:10.

As they leave, stunned and amazed, we could pass them a tract. There's no need to talk to any of the kind of reprobates that would be attracted to this sort of thing. The tract would do our work for us. No fuss, no muss and it frees us up to count our quarters.

Maybe I should have kept this to myself and used it as a ChristianityTuesday issue...

It just might work! It's seems like the right combination of new and exciting with disgusting and repulsive. A combination that church marketers have taken to a whole new level.

Amusing ourselves to death, once again!

But is it a sin to be amused by those having contracted a laughing disease unto death?

Personally, I liked the Sunday School teacher who had his class build a model of the Tabernacle as he explained each piece. Must all enjoyment consist of inanity?

Have the emergents published a theology of fun yet? Was that what we got from Corcoran's drivel on sex and eschatology?

I'll swallow a goldfish if you can find one.
