A Learning, Changing, Growing God

Just about a month ago Adam Walker Cleaveland needed help with a sermon (something I suspect is a recurring problem). I truly regret that our readers weren't notified of his needs sooner. I'm sure you all could have been a big help to Adam. It's my fault entirely for not bringing this to your attention in a timely way.

AWC already had his sermon; all he needed was a text! And the text of his sermon was to be the collaborative part of it.

One reader of his blog, a real pearl among lunatics, suggested one of the Evangelists, saying:

Take a new look at Mark 7, particularly the Syrophoenecian woman. She's helping Jesus "rethink church"-and it is not just the man whose ears are healed whose ears are opened. She changes Jesus. What kind of church would we have if we truly acknowledged that God can learn, and change, and grow?

Certainly not a church that was founded upon a rock. Last time I checked, a building built upon a rock doesn't move.

Well but that was a “modern” rock, and with post-moderns everything is possible even with rocks.

And nothing.

Both everything and nothing is possible with a rock.

Either way.

Or both.

Maybe.

It depends.

But mostly with post-moderns, making sense is not possible.

Ever.

Hm. God himself says he never changes. If only He knew how much better He Himself would be if he realized He could change.
What a bunch of morons. I keep waiting for them to "buck the trend" by finally dropping the "Christian" label. Once they do that, things will be so much easier. Just another cult.

Well our God does not change. Their god changes all the time.

I wondered if their god invariably changes for the better or if he sometimes changes for the worse. I asked an emergent type this question and he gave me his spiel:

a) I don’t yet have it all together
b) “better” and “worse” are terms of comparison based on the arbitrary preferences of privileged vocalities
c) which assume a platonic dualism
d) blah blah blah
e) @%^!~*#&)$
f) diversity
g) blah blah
h) gimme a beer
i) intentionality
j) blah….

But I’m not in the least bit worried about it. My God can take his god any time He wants to.
